A party clown is a children's entertainer for younger kids: games, jokes, simple magic, balloon twisting and stories, run by one performer who keeps the whole room involved. It suits birthday parties at home, in a condo function room or at a void deck, for children of roughly three to eight. You tell us the theme and the timing, and the clown fits the show around your party.
Price: clowns are quoted on the length of the show, the number of children, the date and the extras you add, such as balloon twisting or face painting. Face painting on its own usually costs SGD 250 to 450 for a 2 hour session with one painter. See the price guide.
What a clown does at a party
- Games. Musical chairs, relay races, scavenger hunts and other party games that get every child moving and taking part.
- Simple magic. Tricks with the children helping on stage, which younger kids love.
- Balloon twisting. Animals, swords and flowers that become the party favours.
- Juggling and slapstick. Quick, silly comedy that keeps a young room laughing.
- Stories and puppets. For the youngest guests, a story or a puppet keeps a small group listening.
- Face painting. Some clowns also paint faces. For a bigger group, a separate face painter keeps the queue short.
Match the clown to the age
A clown works best for children of about three to eight. For three to five year olds, keep the group small and the noise down, and lean on stories, bubbles and simple balloon animals. For six to eight year olds, games, magic with volunteers and more detailed balloons work well. Children of ten and up usually prefer a magic show, a dance session or team games. Tell us the ages when you enquire, and mention any child who is scared of costumed characters.
Fit it into the party
A two hour party often runs like this: arrival and free play for the first 20 minutes, the clown's main show from about 20 to 60 minutes, a second activity such as face painting or balloons next, and the cake and goodbye bags in the last half hour. Put the main show in the middle, once the room is full, not right at the start.
Theme and requests
Clowns can tailor the show to a party theme. Say the theme and any special requests when you book, such as the birthday child's name, a favourite character or a game they love.
What the fee covers
The fee covers the performer's time, a briefing before the party, preparation and the agreed show length. Special costumes, travel to remote venues and overtime are quoted separately. Ask for the breakdown when you get the quote.
How booking works
Send the date, the place and the number and ages of the children on WhatsApp or through the quote form. You get a shortlist of clowns who are free, with photos and videos, and a price. Confirm, and the clown arrives early on the day to set up. To combine a clown with face painting and a balloon artist, see the kids party packages.
